About History & Art

History & Art connects the past and the present.

In 2014 the City of Copenhagen decided to bring together four of the city’s cultural institutions – the Museum of Copenhagen, Thorvaldsens Museum, Nikolaj Kunsthal and Copenhagen City Archives – into one single organisation.

History & Art is part of the Culture and Leisure Administration of the City of Copenhagen. The four institutions bring together the past and the present. The intension is that we can experience the value of history and art in our lives. The most immediate task ahead is to opend the Museum of Copenhagen in Stormgade. The opening will take place in February 2020. In 2018 History & Art opend a new, state-of-the-art depository for the entire organisation.

The four institutions within History & Art have a total of 160,000 visitors annually – as well as more than 1.2 million visitors online. Our wide range of activities includes video festivals, art exhibitions, archaeological excavations, digital archiving, urban history making, and much more.
