About History & Art
In 2014 the City of Copenhagen decided to bring together four of the city’s cultural institutions – the Museum of Copenhagen, Thorvaldsens Museum, Nikolaj Kunsthal and Copenhagen City Archives – into one single organisation.
History & Art is part of the Culture and Leisure Administration of the City of Copenhagen. The four institutions bring together the past and the present, thereby contributing to citizens, tourists and visitors experiencing the value of history and art in their lives. The most immediate tasks ahead are the relocation of the Museum of Copenhagen to a new building in Stormgade and the move to a new, state-of-the-art depository for the entire History & Art organisation.
The four institutions within History & Art have a total of 160,000 visitors annually – as well as more than 1.2 million visitors online. Our wide range of activities includes video festivals, art exhibitions, archaeological excavations, digital archiving, urban history making, and much more.
